If there was only one phone I could bring on a trip with me, I would bring the Xiaomi 14.

(Me to my current phones: I’m sorry, but the Xiaomi 14’s camera is just so good!)

I’m quite sad that I was only given 2 weeks to play with this phone. If I had more time, I would plan a trip somewhere (specifically Japan) so I could take fantastic travel photos.

Unfortunately, since I don’t really go out as much, my only choice was to go around the house and take photos of normal, mundane things.

But guess what, even though they were normal, mundane things, the Xiaomi 14’s Leica-engineered camera managed to make these so-called mundane things look absolutely fantastic as photography subjects.

But before I show you these photos, let’s take a quick look at the tech specs of the Xiaomi 14.

    Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

With this engine, the Xiaomi 14 is a fast and powerful phone that can handle multiple tasks all at once, like gaming or surfing through social media, without slowing down.

    Xiaomi HyperOS

Xiaomi offers a wide range of Smart Home appliances and with HyperOS on your phone, it helps your phone connect with other things like cars and home gadgets, making interconnectivity a breeze.

    Ultra-thin bezel CrystalRes display

The Xiaomi 14’s display makes everything look super clear and colorful, and almost lifelike. Its brightness of 3000 nits can help you see even in sunlight. Its LTPO adaptive refresh rate makes the phone energy-efficient, saving energy when you need it.

    Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System

The Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System allows your phone to charge quickly (90W wired charging, 50W wireless charging) and safely while keeping your battery in good condition.

    Next-generation Leica Photography & Videography

An upgrade from its predecessor (Summicron), the Leica Summilux lens helps take pictures in low light and make them really clear and vibrant.

The Xiaomi 14 also features a Light Fusion 900 image sensor that can capture a lot of details in pictures, even in bright and dark areas. Its 75mm floating telephoto camera can take close-up pictures without getting blurry or dark.

The Xiaomi 14 not only excels as a still camera, it also does really well as a video camera. It has a special mode called Movie mode that makes your videos look like they were made by professionals, defaulting to a 2.39:1 aspect ratio that is film industry standards. Movie mode makes it quite easy for the regular Joe to create those cinematic bokeh effects.

So now that we’ve gone through the tech specs, let me show you the photos!

    My verdict

In the hands of a professional photographer, this phone is going to be a very, very powerful tool.

In the hands of a hobbyist, you are going to have a really great time taking this phone around for a photo walk.

In the hands of a newbie photographer, you can still most assuredly take a lot of really good looking photos with the numerous automatic modes. If this doesn’t make you feel like a photographer, I don’t know what will.

Whether you’re a professional, a beginner or just someone who just likes to dabble in photography, the Xiaomi 14 offers a variety of features and capabilities to suit everyone’s needs.

The Xiaomi 14 is available for purchase starting at retail price of P45,999.
