Google launched a series of online, no-cost artificial intelligence (AI) development courses for Filipinos in order for them to develop in-demand AI skills.

On the same day of its 25th anniversary, Google Philippines announced that it is now offering online courses on the use of generative AI, language models, and responsible AI to make themselves AI-ready for potential employers.

“These will make career paths in AI more accessible, and the good news is this is free, anyone can access this,” said Yves Gonzalez, Google Philippines’ Public Policy and Government Relations Head.

“With this, Filipinos can now show their proficiency to their employers,” Gonzalez added.

Google Philippines also added three new courses on cybersecurity, business intelligence, and advanced data analytics to its Google Career Certificates. It said that these will put Filipinos in “high-growth digital fields.”

The company also voiced its support for early stage startups by launching the “Google for AI Startups Cloud Program.” The new program is supposed to help startups in the AI field produce new solutions and products for consumers.

The Google Philippines’ country director, Bernadette Nacario, said that Google is a committed partner in helping build a digital Philippines.

“Through our technology, skilling programs, and partnerships, we will continue to help unleash the potential of the digital economy and empower the workforce of the future,” Nacario said.

Last year, the company provided 39,000 Google Career Certificate scholarships to Filipinos. Google allocated another 1,000 scholarships in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders.

Google Philippines prides itself with “positive” impact in the country by stating there are currently 6,000 Google Career Certificate holders.
