Eight changes you’ll need to keep an eye out for in NBA 2K24

NBA 2K24, the latest installment in the popular NBA 2K video game series, brings several improvements and changes to the court. In this review, we’ll dive into the gameplay, new features, and overall experience to highlight what works and what falls short in this year’s edition.

    1. Bump steals are a rarity

One noticeable improvement in NBA 2K24 is the reduction in bump steals. Unlike previous versions where bump steals were frequent, 2K24 introduces more realistic animations when players find themselves in tough spots or contesting the ball. This change enhances the realism of the game, making it less reliant on the sometimes-frustrating bump steals.
    2. Smoother catch and shoot mechanics

Due to the ProPLAY system, NBA 2K24 offers smoother catch and shoot mechanics. Real-life NBA footage translates seamlessly into in-game animations, resulting in fluid motions that mimic how players shoot and pass in real life. This change eliminates unnecessary delays, allowing for quicker and more accurate shooting opportunities.
    3. Challenging three-pointers

Easy off-screen three-pointers are a thing of the past in NBA 2K24. The improved AI defense makes it challenging to get open shots, even for seasoned players. While this change might pose a greater challenge, it adds to the overall realism and competitiveness of the game.
    4. Engaging Mamba Moments Game Mode

The Mamba Moments game mode pays tribute to the legendary Kobe Bryant and his career highlights. The commentary adds depth to the experience by discussing relevant events from that era. The rewards in this mode are exceptional, benefiting both MyTEAM and MyCAREER players.
    5. The controversial Battlepass

The introduction of the Battlepass system in a basketball game like NBA 2K24 received mixed reviews. While it may seem out of place, the free base Battlepass offers substantial rewards, especially for MyTEAM enthusiasts. The inclusion of essential player cards in the free version is a notable plus.
    6. And the paid Battlepass tiers!

However, it’s important to exercise caution when considering the Pro and Hall of Fame Battlepass tiers, as they might not be worth the investment for all players.
    7. Expensive Upgrades in MyCAREER

NBA 2K24 is a let down with expensive microtransactions, particularly in MyCAREER. Even if you have 100k virtual currency (VC), you’re only going to max out at 75 Overall rating. In order to reach 85 Overall rating, you need at least 190k VC. The closest package for that would be 200k VC Pack which is priced at SGD 67.90 (₱2,830.33). To reach a competitive overall rating, players often need to spend real money, which can become prohibitively expensive.
    8. Soaring costs in MyTEAM

MyTEAM players will also feel the pinch, as the prices of packs and boxes have skyrocketed compared to previous editions. The prices of box and packs have either tripled or quadrupled over the years. This increase in costs can be frustrating for MyTEAM enthusiasts.

Overall, NBA 2K24 introduces several positive changes, such as reduced bump steals, smoother gameplay animations, and engaging game modes like Mamba Moments. However, it’s essential to be cautious of the microtransactions, which can prove costly for those looking to stay competitive.

NBA 2K24 delivered an immersive basketball experience but it may leave players divided over its monetization strategies.
