2025 is in full swing, and with so many new dreams and expectations on the horizon, many people are looking forward to the next big thing coming out that could shake things up in the consumer market. Nintendo certainly knows this, and after so many rumors, leaks, and speculation as to when they would unveil the successor to their highly successful Nintendo Switch platform, the Japan-based developer has finally showcased an update that officially reveals the Nintendo Switch 2!

The trailer starts off with a look at the original Nintendo Switch – before it slowly morphs into its new successor along with the two JoyCon controllers that have also evolved and have been redesigned as well – adding new functions that have yet to be discussed in detail. As leaks and rumors have suggested, the Switch 2 will focus on higher specs and it is much larger than its predecessor or its OLED update. No games were revealed for the new system, other than a new untitled Mario Kart game that was playing on the demo alongside the console’s reveal.

Other than showcasing the new design for the console hybrid and the JoyCon controllers that will accompany the system, no other details were revealed for the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo also included in the trailer that they will reveal more details with a Nintendo Direct spotlighting their newest system on 4.2.2025. Nintendo also confirmed in text that the system is almost fully backwards compatible – meaning you can play almost all your old Switch games whether they be physical or digital purchases.

As industry reports have suggested and as confirmed by Nintendo in the announcement, the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be released sometime this year as well. No exact date has been set and it’s a good bet it will be revealed in the upcoming Nintendo Direct, so it won’t be too much of a long wait for fans and gamers looking to get their hands on Nintendo’s newest video game device – possibly even before the 2025 holiday season.
