Equinix, Inc., a global leader in digital infrastructure, has officially launched its first International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Jakarta. Built under a joint venture with PT Astra International Tbk (“Astra”), the new facility — called JK1 — is designed to power the next wave of digital growth in Indonesia, offering access to more than 50 global and local network service providers.

With the country’s digital economy expected to reach US$130 billion by 2025, Equinix aims to provide the foundational infrastructure businesses need to scale services, support cloud adoption, and harness the potential of emerging technologies like AI.

A vote of confidence from government and industry leaders

The inauguration of JK1 drew strong support from both public and private sector leaders, highlighting Indonesia’s growing appeal as a digital investment destination.

Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs:

“Equinix JK1 is expected to serve as a strategic gateway for global technology companies and startups to expand their investments.”

She noted that Indonesia’s access to water, competitive energy, and potential in green energy are key to operating efficient data centers.

Ricky Kusmayadi, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Investment:

“This collaboration between global and local partners supports our vision of positioning Indonesia as a regional digital hub.”

He called on more investors to take part in building sustainable infrastructure that benefits businesses and society.

    Cyrus Adaggra, President, Asia-Pacific, Equinix:

“Southeast Asia is a strategic market for Equinix, as shown by the strong customer interest in JK1 at launch.”

Haris Izmee, Managing Director, Equinix Indonesia:

“E-commerce remains Indonesia’s largest digital sector, and its growth—along with rising cloud adoption—is fueling the need for scalable, high-performance infrastructure.”

He linked JK1 to Indonesia’s broader goal of becoming a regional digital powerhouse under the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.

    Santosa, Director, Astra:

“The combination of Equinix’s expertise and Astra’s local experience enables JK1 to meet business needs both locally and globally.”

Inside the JK1 facility: Designed for performance and scale

Located in Jakarta’s Central Business District and near key internet exchanges, JK1 is strategically positioned to offer fast, secure, and low-latency connections to a wide digital ecosystem — both regionally and globally.

The eight-story facility currently hosts 550 cabinets, with plans to scale up to 1,600 cabinets and 5,300 square meters of colocation space when fully built. JK1 also delivers interconnection services via Equinix Fabric® and Equinix Internet Access®, giving businesses the flexibility to build their own digital ecosystems.

Sustainability and AI readiness at the core

More than just powerful, JK1 is also efficient. The facility integrates advanced cooling technologies — including Cooling Array and liquid cooling systems — to manage heat from AI and high-performance computing workloads.

Designed for an average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.41 at full load, JK1 will operate within globally accepted ASHRAE A1A standards. The facility is also 100% powered by renewable energy through the purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs), in line with Equinix’s global push toward sustainability (96% renewables coverage as of 2024).

Equinix’s Asia-Pacific footprint continues to grow

The launch of JK1 is part of a broader expansion strategy across the Asia-Pacific region. Equinix now operates 60 data centers across 16 major metros in markets like Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and India — with new entries into the Philippines and Thailand announced last year.

Globally, Platform Equinix spans 270 data centers across 75 metros in 35 countries, offering a trusted foundation for digital leaders to build and scale worldwide.
