Tokyo Game Show 2025 is shining the spotlight on indie creativity with the announcement of eight finalists for Sense of Wonder Night 2025 (SOWN 2025), the long-running showcase of experimental game design.

The finals are set for Friday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m. in Makuhari Messe’s International Conference Hall. The event will also be streamed live, continuing its tradition of celebrating unique gameplay ideas that aim to surprise and inspire.

    Pocky returns for fourth year

Japanese video creator Pocky has been reappointed as Official Indie Game Ambassador for the fourth consecutive year. In addition to judging the entries, Pocky will again present the Pocky Award, highlighting the title that personally impressed him the most.

    Expanding the indie stage

This year, the organizer has launched the SELECTED INDIE 80 website, giving players an early look at the lineup of indie titles exhibiting on the show floor. Registration for the TGS Forum has also opened, with sessions tailored for business attendees.

Among the first confirmed programs is a 90-minute panel on September 25 focused on the Middle Eastern games industry following the Esports World Cup 2025, a signal of TGS’s commitment to broadening international perspectives in gaming.

    About Sense of Wonder Night

SOWN has been a key part of TGS since 2008, giving indie developers a rare chance to present on a global stage. Past finalists have included breakout hits that later reached international acclaim.

Tokyo Game Show 2025 runs September 25–28, 2025, at Makuhari Messe.
