    Training an AI is like raising a kid

    Editor’s Note:

    When I was discussing this month’s comic with Luis, we agreed to explore how AI tends to become a sycophant – an LLM that aims to please, agreeing with everything its master feeds it, just like a loyal dog.

    But it went further than that, as Luis is an artist and in the art community the verdict seems to encapsulate a lot of what is said in these panels.

    But then I also realized another level to this comic, and that I’m releasing it today, Father’s Day. Somehow humans are the AI parents teaching and training large language models to reason and “walk on their own two feet.” It takes time. There are hits. There are misses. There are frustrations. But one thing is for sure: there are conversations that almost seem like two humans talking to each other. Some may call it dystopian. Others may find it depressing. But it is an odd reality that face today. Happy Father’s Day to all the AI engineers who have never given up on their prompts.
