PH-Singapore internet cable restored after outage

The undersea internet cable connecting the Philippines and Singapore has been fully restored after an outage coincided with reports of slow and intermittent internet connections across the country Friday night.

Philippine telecommunications provider InfiniVAN said Saturday that the C2C submarine cable’s Philippines-Singapore segment had been restored and under monitoring since 12:48 p.m.

Advisory from InfiniVAN Inc’s Facebook page.

The company said the issue had been “permanently resolved” and services were operating normally.

The restoration comes a day after internet users reported connectivity problems across several providers, including Globe, PLDT and Converge.

The UP Diliman Network Helpdesk also warned Friday that an undersea cable segment between the Philippines and Singapore was offline and could cause higher latency and intermittent performance, particularly when accessing websites hosted overseas.

Network monitoring platform CableStatus separately detected elevated latency between the Philippines and Singapore on Friday, although it cautioned that its data alone could not identify which physical cable was affected.

InfiniVAN later identified its C2C Singapore link as down, saying the problem could result in intermittent or slower-than-usual internet connectivity.

At the same time, its C2C Hong Kong link was undergoing maintenance, resulting in limited network redundancy. The C2C system provides InfiniVAN’s parent group with international links connecting the Philippines to both Singapore and Hong Kong.

Network redundancy allows internet traffic to be redirected through alternative connections when one route becomes unavailable. Several Philippine telcos said they rerouted affected traffic through other international links during Friday’s disruption.

It said a Reason for Outage report would be released once available.

The company said it would continue monitoring the restored connection to ensure network stability.
